REFLECTIONS IN WATER (2025)

Reflections in Water: The Poetry of Silenced Voices is an attempt to bring the polyphonous poets and their silenced voices to the stage through a multi-arts presentation.

1927 marked a significant year in India’s herstory as two landmark incidents changed the course of time. Dr. Ambedkar gave the clarion call for Mahad Satyagraha to allow untouchables to use water in a public tank and Narayana Guru in Kerala installed a Mirror in the Kalavamkodam temple instead of a deity. Reflections in Water is a multi-disciplinary attempt to bring these two themes together of Water and Reflection via poetry of pain, oppression, silence, subaltern verses and poignant prose.

Voices and Verses of Emerson, Jibah Narah, Philip Larkin, Meher Pestonji, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Periyar E.V, Kaifi Azmi, Basudev Sunani, Mahmoud Darwish, Abhijit Khandkar, Tagore, Arun Kamble, Narayana Guru, Sylvia Plath, Spike Miligan, Laxmi Yadav, Kabir, Baburao Bagul, Ambedkar and Namdeo Dhasal are interpreted for the stage to create an experiential evening.

Performed on 4th January 2025, 6:30 PM, at Godrej Dance Theatre, NCPA
